friend@public Becomes Europe’s Best-Selling Information Terminal:

Munich, July 21, 2001 - Most recently honored by the Designforum Nürnberg, the friend@public customer information system has become the best-selling information terminal in its category, with more than 1,500 systems operating throughout Europe.

In just 36 months, this product has enabled friendlyway to become the market leader in Germany. With record sales of nearly DM 7 million in the first six months of this year, friendlyway is already approaching its sales volume for all of last year.

Friendlyway is focusing on the interface of the two megatrends “online/offline” and “mobile/stationary”. In the “online/offline” context, banks and commercial customers will bring eCommerce into the traditional branch office. In the “mobile/stationary” context, these eCommerce products and services will be accessible and controllable from mobile terminals. Customers will for instance be able to download product information onto their mobile computer and take it home.

In the spring of this year, this positioning has earned friendlyway a spot on the list of Germany’s most innovative companies as chosen by the trade publication Netinvestor. Last year, friendlyway was runner-up – besting 1,300 other competitors – in the widely publicized StartUp competition sponsored by McKinsey, the savings banks and the magazine Stern.
