friendlyway and NEC agree on marketing cooperation

January 17, 2002

Munich, 17 January 2002 – With immediate effect, friendlyway and NEC Deutschland GmbH will cooperate to market public multimedia customer communication. With the comprehensive cooperation agreement, the two leading providers in the sectors for information terminals and plasma displays will pool sales, marketing und know-how. The aim is to market jointly information, communication and sales solutions from friendlyway’s interactive terminals and NEC’s large plasma screens. This cooperation will further the development of new applications and target groups. The merger of the two partners’ expertise and their joint profile will be a great advantage for customers, who will benefit from a complete system solution from one source.

At the most recent ‘Systems’ fair, the partners successfully unveiled the newly developed Multimedia XXL product. Multimedia XXL comprises an interactive terminal from friendlyway and a large plasma screen from NEC. Plasma displays have a width from one to over 1.5 metres and, owing to their shallow construction depth, can be set up anywhere. Information with moving pictures from the information, entertainment and advertising sectors is shown on the plasma screen, encouraging customers to interact with the information terminal. At the terminal, individual items of information can be called up or ordered directly on the internet. This latest technology combination is designed, above all, to meet the requirements of presentations, marketing consultancy and the animation of products and services provided by banks, store departments, multi-storey car parks, airports, cinemas and fairs.

With Multimedia XXL, banks can advertise their financial, insurance and real-estate services on the plasma display in the accessible public sector. On the adjacent infoterminal, interested individuals can call up information, request detailed documents and make appointments to obtain advice.

In future, products will be launched on large screens at sales exhibitions and fairs. Owing to the high degree of brightness and excellent video reproduction, product advantages can be highlighted multimedially and service ranges introduced to a wide public. Those interested can also obtain further information on a touch-sensitive terminal and order products directly.

About friendlyway (http://www.friendlyway.de)
friendlyway has concentrated on the interface of two megatrends, ‘online/offline’ and ‘mobile/stationary’. In the ‘online/offline’ megatrend, banks and trade customers are now bringing e-commerce into the traditional branches. In the ‘mobile/stationary’ megatrend, these e-commerce offers can be called up and controlled from mobile end-units. Customers can, for instance, download product information electronically onto their mobile computer and take it home. Against this background, friendlyway is developing technological solutions and marketing them via the friendlyway partner network throughout Europe, Asia and in America via its own subsidiary, friendlyway Inc. in San Francisco.

Given this positioning, friendlyway was voted one of Germany’s leading innovative companies by the ‘Netinvestor’ magazine in spring 2001. Within two years, friendlyway has improved its market position by leaping from 13th to 2nd place (see August 2001 edition of i-Business, published by Hightext publishing house).
