CeBIT 2002 Highlight: the first media "memorial stone"

February 05, 2002

Munich, 05/02/2002 – friendlyway will be presenting the first multi-media memorial stone to the public at the CeBIT trade fair this year. The memorial stone has a computer point enabling access to the Internet, from memorial sites and cemeteries for example. This means that information such as text, pictures, sound and even video can be called up on the people and institutions being commemorated.

With its Internet memorial stone, friendlyway - which is now represented worldwide - is leading the way with a trend from the USA that is gaining popularity in Europe as well. It is now common practice in the USA to publish an obituary on specially-designed Internet memorial pages. Enabling access to this information via an Internet system at the location of the memorial or mourning is a logical development.

"The multi-media memorial stone also enables access to information about charitable organisations working to counter disease, violence or political persecution. Donations can be transferred to them online. So friendlyway is not only on the side of the struggle against forgetfulness but also fulfils a good purpose for a more friendly world," says Klaus Trox, CEO of friendlyway AG.

The initiative has already met with keen interest from those involved in the preservation of historic buildings and monuments. Two prospective buyers will be holding discussions on installing the first Internet memorial stones after CeBIT 2002.

About friendlyway (http://www.friendlyway.de)
friendlyway has concentrated on the interface of two megatrends, ‘online/offline’ and ‘mobile/stationary’. In the ‘online/offline’ megatrend, banks and trade customers are now bringing e-commerce into the traditional branches. In the ‘mobile/stationary’ megatrend, these e-commerce offers can be called up and controlled from mobile end-units. Customers can, for instance, download product information electronically onto their mobile computer and take it home. Against this background, friendlyway is developing technological solutions and marketing them via the friendlyway partner network throughout Europe, Asia and in America via its own subsidiary, friendlyway Inc. in San Francisco.
