CeBIT 2002: "Playing Spielberg - by pressing a button!"

February 27, 2002

Munich, 27.02.2002 – friendlyway will present the newly developed “lifeline” software to the public at this year’s CeBIT fair. This software developed by friendlyway automates the direction and administration of large kiosk and vending machine networks.

The lifeline editing function makes it possible to produce direction plans which can then be run on the kiosk systems. In this way the operator can determine the time sequence for calling up videos, web pages, animations stored offline, etc. for running on the lifeline-enabled systems. So the electronic kiosk at the airport can be switched to the internet page of a client at 7 pm on Tuesday evening when an online auction is just taking place. When this is finished, the normal video presentation programmed for this time is automatically switched back on again by lifeline.

With the lifeline administration function, kiosks or vending machines transmit so-called “heart beats”. These are electronic messages which are sent to the administrator at predefined intervals. These heart beats contain information on the state of the hardware (e.g. processor temperature) and the software (e.g. which application is actually running). The latter function enables detailed user profiles to be produced which can be used for personalised marketing of offers on kiosk systems.

The administrator function of the lifeline software enables the administration of PC-based client systems even through firewalls. This functionality makes the software especially interesting for banks and large trading organisations.

This solution provides operators with considerable cost savings when updating vending machine or kiosk systems. When the hardware is changed, lifeline can carry out an automatic configuration and update of the content without any involvement of the servicing personnel. In this way service times can be reduced by up to 80% of the time previously necessary.

The system also has a radio-controlled notification function. In this way, service engineers on the move can receive information on the status of the network under their care on their mobile telephone or other mobile equipment.

“The lifeline software makes a significant impact on the competitiveness of friendlyway AG” says Klaus Trox, chairman of friendlyway AG. “Customers from banking and commerce expect a technology partner who can provide a comprehensive solution for their media communications with their customers.“

Other innovations at CeBIT 2002, such as the “media commemorative stone“, the talking advertising display”, “the virtual bank advisor“ can be found from 13.03. to 20.03. at the Hannover fair site at the friendlyway stand in hall 6 H46.

About friendlyway (http://www.friendlyway.com)
friendlyway has focussed on the interface between the two mega trends “online/offline” and “mobile/fixed”. In the “online/offline” mega trend banks and commercial companies will bring eCommerce to their classical outlets. In the “mobile/fixed” mega trend, these eCommerce offers can be controlled and called up by mobile terminals. For example, customers can load product information electronically on their mobile computers and take it back home with them. friendlyway is developing technological solutions for this and is marketing them through the friendlyway partner network throughout Europe and Asia and through their own subsidiary friendlyway Inc. in San Francisco also in the USA.
